In the Media Industry

In the media industry there are many actors which make it up, these sectors are;

  • animation;
  • computer games;
  • facilities (which includes post production, studio and equipment hire, special physical effects, outside broadcast, processing laboratories, transmission, manufacture of AV equipment and other services for film and TV);
  • film;
  • interactive media;
  • other content creation (pop promos, corporate and commercials production);
  • photo imaging;
  • publishing (books, journals, magazines, newspapers, directories and databases, news agencies, and electronic information services);
  • radio
  • television

Most of these sectors have their own specific roles and special areas of work. Others supply specialist services to support or supplement the work of other sectors. All sectors have their own unique skills and specialisms, and therefore their own unique requirements for skills and training, but there is now increasing movement of freelancers between related sectors.

  • Animation: Digital Domain. An american award winning animation company. Digital Domain works with a stellar group of A-list directors including David Fincher, Mark Romanek, Joseph Kosinski, Carl Erik Rinsch and more. They have done work in films such as; Transformers: the dark of the moon, The girl with the dragon tattoo, x-men First class, The A team and many more. They also do animations for games Gears of war 3, Halo 4, Assassins Creed II and more.
  • Computer games: Electronic Arts (EA Games) is an American developer, publisher, marketer and distributor and is one of the largest video game companies in the world. They have created the likes such as; 2010 FIFA World cup SouthAfrica, NBA street home court, Tiger Woods 99 PGA tour golf and many more. They focus a lot on sports games but they do also make children games and action.
  • Facilities: MITIE. Mitite provide facilities, property and energy management for a wide range of public and private sector businesses.   • Film: Universal Studios. Universal Studios is one of the biggest film companies in the world. They have made films such as; The wolf man, The mummy, Spartacus, Jaws and Back to the future plus many many more. They are a very successful company still going strong now (2012)
  • Interactive Media; BIMA. BIMA is a British Interactive Media Industry it is not only local but global since 1985 .
  • other content creation (pop promos, corporate and commercials production); Blink productions, a London aced commercial production company. They’ve done adverts such as the new IKEA (2012 tea party), Channel 4 para olympics, and more.
  • photo imaging; Magnum photos. A worldwide photo imagery co-operative. They do various types of imagery from extreme sports to landscape and war.
  • publishing (books, journals, magazines, newspapers, directories and databases, news agencies, and electronic information services); Bloomsbury publishing. A publishing company that has stores open in London, New York, Sydney and New Delhi. They produce over 1000 books, journals and digital services each year.
  • radio: Capital. Capital Radio is the UK’s leading radio group, it was originally called Galaxy until late 2011 early 2012 they changed their name in hope of promotion. Its based in London, England. A very high respected and successful company, soon to be bigger and better as the years go.
  • television; Virgin. Virgin Television has currently around 3.4 million subscribers. 3.2 million of them are digital cable customers, and the other 200,000 are analogue cable customers. Along with having a tv company they also have, internet broadband, train line, and phone lines plus more.
